DICO is now also active in sport and launches project group “Compliance in sports organizations”

With the establishment of a project group “Compliance in sports organizations” – under the project management of Katharina Dierlamm, LL.M. and Dr. Christian Schmitz – DICO is expanding its activities to an important target group. “We see a particular need in sports organizations in the areas of finance, decision-making processes, health and competitive sport. Our aim is to provide clubs and associations in particular with guidelines and assistance and to support them in establishing good compliance structures in their day-to-day work,” says Katharina Dierlamm, who is also Vice President of the German Volleyball Association in addition to her work as a lawyer. Compliance is becoming increasingly important for sports organizations, which is why we are delighted with the decision to set up a new project group. “Sport serves as a role model for many. It is therefore all the more important that people see that compliance plays a central role in sport. This also means that rules must be adhered to and violations must be punished. This is the only way to ensure fair play,” says Dr. Christoph Klahold, Spokesman of the DICO Executive Board.

The two project group leaders Katharina Dierlamm and Dr. Christian Schmitz will also begin their work immediately and will be available to answer questions and receive suggestions at the upcoming DICOFORUM Compliance on October 1-2, 2024 in Berlin(https://www.dico-forum.de/). Dr Christian Schmitz, lawyer and lecturer in Criminal Compliance at the Rheinische Hochschule, sees a lot of potential in the project group: “Over 24 million Germans are active in sports organizations. We see the project group as an opportunity for a specialist exchange, especially for those responsible in clubs and associations. Compliance has long since arrived here. We look forward to exciting projects in which guidelines and assistance for sports organizations are developed together.”

We wish the project group many passionate participants, intensive exchange and a successful establishment of “Compliance in sports organizations”.
